pretzels

09/10/2010

Rufus Mangrove

the pretzels always looks good and fresh until you bite into them and they taste like cardboard and then you curse yourself for spending three bucks for them because now you’re thirsty and even more unsatisfied than when you convinced yourself you really needed a pretzel and that the last pretzel you had was bad but that was just probably a fluke.

Love your photos in B/W. But I especially like the way you title them. It really adds to the whole experience of viewing them. Each one is it’s own little story that you give a snippet of and, yet, tells so much. Very nice job!

Great photo! And I totally understand that feeling of wanting a pretzel and then it tastes that blaaaah. :)

  5. September 10, 2010

    Love this!

I agree, pretzels are very, very deceiving creatures.

  6. September 10, 2010

The last pretzel I had was a wonderful, warm, buttery delight of which I still dream. The only place to get it is at a local mall. I avoid malls so it has been a long time. Maybe I need to make a special trip just for that buttery bit of heaven. Now you have me craving pretzels.

  7. September 10, 2010

Lots and lots of cheese … Nice photo!

Love the angle and the caption. Nice work!

  9. September 10, 2010

Hahaha so true! Although I’m in Philly…where there are fresh pretzels EVERYwhere. LOVE this photo…great work!

Great photo. When I was growing up in Philly, we had the BEST soft pretzels on the planet. Now, you can’t even get a good one there.

  11. September 10, 2010

Amazing photo: I love it when people take pics that aren’t try-hard. And pretzels are strange, like you said. We all know they don’t taste very good but we all buy them now and then anyway. Weird.
    Great blog :)

    like the B & W photo

    keep it up ^^,

  13. September 10, 2010

I don’t know for pretzels from street vendors, but I love me a pretzel from the pretzel-maker in the mall!

It has been several months ago, that my wife and I, and several friends made a pleasure trip to New York City for four days. I was born and raised in the city. It had been a long time since my return.

It was a wonderful experience, far removed from my memories as a child dealing with fear, gangs and zip guns to protect one’s self in going to school. The people were wonderful to me and my group in every way. The trip changed me forever.

  17. September 10, 2010

    super lovely photo! :)

pretzels are terrible. But this photo is beautiful and I agree with rtcrita: the captions on all your work make it larger than the sum of its parts.

  21. September 10, 2010

    Great photo.

Oh, and why is it that the pretzels on the street ALWAYS taste like hotdog?

  22. September 10, 2010

cool photo..it goes great with your background :) Congrats on Freshly Pressed

  23. September 10, 2010

so true.. I don’t know how many times I cursed myself, and the rest of the world because of this.
then i sing the The Cramps song ” Don’t eat stuff fron the sidewalk” , and feel a bit better .
    the photo is the best.

  24. September 10, 2010

I like this; the open space, the woman purposely looking away, the hopeful look of the vendor. It all works and makes one interested.

  26. September 10, 2010

    Hey,
You should come to Canada and try the Beaver Tails! They are great. That is an amazing photo.

  31. September 11, 2010

oh but i love the tiny crispy pretzels that come in boxes… and your photo just captures the black and white of pretzels, uncertainty and snobbery. =)

  32. September 11, 2010

Yes, giant pretzels are kind of dry. But when I’m hungry, they’re really good after I’ve eaten the last bite.

  33. September 11, 2010

a very captivating photo,i like how it pulls everything in but makes it seperate.

  34. September 11, 2010

Yes, like so much junk food. We get tempted then regret it after. It’s like the thought is always so much better thatn the thing.

New York City- the greatest city in the world…as for pretzels.. never gotten the point of them really… dry tasteless bread twisted into a knot… why? lol…

  38. September 11, 2010

Pretzels? What pretzels? Oh, those next to that hot chick. Sorry, I was focusing on the real reason you took the photo.

  41. September 11, 2010

I’m not a huge fan of pretzels, they always come too salty and then I have to scrap off the salt and they aren’t that fresh and then I’m disappointed I spent the money. But, I love your photo, very cool!

  65. September 12, 2010

I love pretzels, but I hardly ever eat them. The honey-mustard ones are DE-lish! Yum.

When we were in Berlin, we were SURPRISED!!! to see the GIGANTIC variety sold here and there, everywhere! Wow! Segy and I could almost taste them from afar, but we were late boarding the subway, so we missed out on buying some. Still, I’ve always wondered how they tasted.

And then came the day… many years later… when I made some pretzels for my church CCE kids during Lent. Wow. They turned out gr-r-reat!

So, yeah. See what your post concocted in my pea brain?!!
