How to create inspirational posts on Facebook that most everybody will like

“I often tell my clients that it’s important to absolutely destroy yourself once in a while. That way, when you eventually pick yourself up off the ground after some form or forms of self-destructive behavior (preferably something that lasts a year or more), you will be in a better position mentally to find a really good inspirational quote set against a nice warm picture of clouds or sunsets, or a woman running into the distance on a beach. You can then post variants of that quote over and over again on Facebook, sometimes in different fonts (safe bets are copperplate, palatino, and papyrus, but always, always, avoid comic sans and arial), and your friends will like it, because people can’t dislike positive people and messages. The goal in all of this is for someone to share your inspirational post, hopefully someone like George Takei, which you will then share, along with a new quote that sheds light on your further realizations, which hopefully will be shared again, giving you yet another opportunity to share and pontificate in a couple of sentences about what happiness means to you and the larger world.”

You want to go to law school?

I went to a third-tier law school and I still owe over $100,000. And I’ve been paying it since 2001. I’m also trying to pay extra each month to bring the principal down. But the Access Group keeps fucking with the numbers, and applies all the extra payments to interest.

I also have trouble maintaining normal conversations with lay people.

My life revolves around watching The Walking Dead on AMC on Sunday nights. There are no more shows until February.

I should have went to SUNY Buffalo.

you know the feeling you get when you knock on a door and nobody answers?

I don’t think I’d catch a grenade for you, or throw my hand on a blade for you.

I won't catch a grenade for you by Rufus Mangrove

I don’t consider myself selfish, but I don’t think I’d catch a grenade for another person or throw my hand on a blade for another person. And I’m certainly not going to jump in front of a train for another person, even a family member. I mean, what the fuck would that do? Nothing.

And while I like attention just like the next person, I wouldn’t want a person to tell me they would go through pain or put a bullet in their brain or die for me. I don’t need that kind of pressure in my life right now.

Be Yourself by Rufus Mangrove

Photography is hard, even though the cameras they make now make it seem as though taking pictures is easy. I can’t think of any other pursuit where you’re always thinking, “What can I capture next?” or “Where can I capture it?” or “Do I have the right fucking lens on?” on an almost continual basis. It can become manic and frustrating. And what other pursuit can you consistently fail 99 percent of the time, and that’s just with the shots you took. How much quiet desperation did you feel when you were on the street and missed the shot? When you’re playing football, and you drop the catch, at least everyone knows it. But when you’re a photographer, you share the pain and failure alone, and without anyone knowing that you were there and you missed it. Sometimes, it may seem that nothing is working or that there’s nothing to shoot. Keep going. Shoot for yourself. In the end, it is the discipline that will keep you going in light of the failures, not motivation.

Some days turn into the next day and the next before I have a chance to do anything. And then because I didn’t do anything, I am caught between whether I should be doing something now or to continue doing nothing. I end up doing something, but invariably it’s never about what I should be doing.

Are cellphones going down the path of french fries? Sometimes I think so. In the 1980’s, I recall that eating fries wasn’t only considered not bad for you but it was actually encouraged that you eat them.

“Here, son, eat something healthy, like french fries.”

Then at some point in the 1990’s, it became not good for you, so much so that somewhere in the 2000’s, you could rightfully look down at a parent giving a baby french fries. But the thing is, unlike raw butter sticks or lard pudding, french fries taste really good to a large amount of the human population. In the back of my mind, someone who doesn’t like french fries simply cannot be trusted.

I see people now with their cellphones and when they get the opportunity to “veg” out they “cell” out, and go to town facebooking, videowatching, emailing, etc., like mad zombies, during times and instances where previously it would have been “normal” to talk or observe or just be human. The units of time have become altered with these damn things, leaving more time to virtually connect and less time to being human, unless being human is now virtually connecting.

Maybe at some point cellphone use will seem bad and people’s behaviors will change. But like french fries, I’ve tasted the Kool-Aid, and it’s good.
