My name is Leonard. I work for Saward Management Company. They own a ton of buildings downtown. I’m assigned to 305 Wallstreet. It’s one of those places that has a lot of solo practice lawyers. I clean their garbage and vacuum the floor. At night when I leave, I like to think I’m a bat, almost like a batman. I just ride the subway, from one terminus to the other.
over there at the end of the block was a memory
i used to have when i was younger
there was candy canes and cotton candy and bubble tea
coconut cookies and almond floats
you were there, too
at the bottom of the slide
to catch me when i went down headfirst
i knew that was against the rules
but you let me do it anyway
now i go feet first
and make sure there are lots of pillows at the bottom
Waiting for the bus…
Dreaming of the islands
So far away although there
Are so many of us here
We came here to find opportunity
And peace and freedom
Yet with all these rules and social networks
And rat races every which way
With everyone having to go somewhere
It’s during these times that I wait
Truly wait
And I realize that I left something good
And that I will spend the rest of my
Life trying to get back to where I’m from
After spending my whole life trying to get here
Check it before we wreck it
Each one of us
Shares a thought
A feeling
Even a handshake
We sit next to each other
Wondering if the other had a milkshake
Chocolate or vanilla or strawberry deluxe?
A mix maybe
That brings us all back to childhood
When we could do anything and
Dream anything
Now that we aren’t little
We seem now more incapable
Less adventerous
The world to us is a room
With four corners, a computer, and
Some pencils that are half sharpened
